Welcome to the 2019-2020 School Year! I hope you’ve had a wonderful summer and are excited to begin a great year at Washington Elementary.
In this packet you will find a lot of important information. Please take some time to read through everything and discuss items that pertain with your child. Included is a flyer with all days off and half days listed. Please hang this on your refrigerator to refer to throughout the year. I will update you regularly of upcoming events through email, Facebook, and Remind. Check the Information, Rules, and Procedures Packet for information on how to stay connected with us in these ways.
School starts back as a half day on Tuesday, September 3rd from 8:05 a.m. – 11:43 a.m. I know the first day is exciting for you and your student, but I do ask that you allow them to enter the building independently. The students will be assisted by teachers and other caring staff members. Allowing your child to enter the building with his/her classmates begins the process of developing independence and allows the teacher to get started right away.
Wednesday, September 4th will be our first full day from 8:05 a.m. – 3:00 p.m.
The first bell rings at 8:00 a.m. and students are expected to be in class at 8:05 a.m. Students will dismiss at 3:00 p.m. on full days and 11:43 a.m. on half days. Please plan drop-off and pick-up accordingly. Regular and punctual attendance is important. There are before and after care options available if needed through the YMCA and the Salvation Army.
We do have students that are bussed to and from Washington daily who attend satellite classes in our building from our center based programs. Please be extra cautious and patient during the first few days as schedules are established with these transportation companies. We will monitor this closely to make arrival and dismissal most efficient and safe for all. There is a Drop and Drive area, with the curb painted yellow in the front of the building. This is a no parking zone in the morning.
We will be hosting our Back to School Night for 1st – 5th grades on Thursday, September 5th, 6 - 7pm. Please come in and meet your child’s teacher, see his/her classroom, and get to know Washington Elementary.
I feel privileged to be working with you and all of the students at Washington this year. I send out information weekly through email, about events going on at our school, so please make sure your email address is on file and up to date in the office. I look forward to getting to know all of you. You can reach me at (734)759-6100, mcmastk@wy.k12.mi.us, or by stopping in the office. I’ll see you on the first day of school, September 3rd.
